Meitheal Programme
The aim of the Meitheal Programme in Scoil Mhuire is twofold, to help incoming first year students to adapt to secondary school and to promote leadership, responsibility and teamwork among fifth year students. Meitheal means a group of people working together with a common aim. Amongst the duties involved:
- Help first years to mix. Make new friends and to include girls who don’t know many others.
- Organise lunchtime events throughout the year, Social games, Icebreakers, quizzes, talent show, sports leagues etc.
- Homework club
- Act as mentors; watch out for lonely, isolated students, report any incidents of bullying.
Student Council Information
The Student Council is a representative structure for student, through which they can become involved in aspects of the school, working in a partnership with school management, staff and parents for the benefit of the school and its students.
The membership of the student council shall consist of the Head Girl and Deputy Head Girl and two representatives elected by each year group. Members shall be a positive example in terms of respect for the school code of behaviour and leadership. The student council works with a teacher who is the link person between students and staff and management in the school. There shall be at least one member of staff in attendance at meetings. The term of the council shall be from September to June.
Aims and Objectives
A Student Council is a representative structure for all the students in the school. Its principal aims are:
- To support the ethos of the school
- To support students with the opportunity to become involved in the affairs of the school
- To work in partnership with school management, staff and parents
- To encourage students to be self-confident, responsible and caring
- To foster in students a sense of loyalty to the school
- To improve communication at all levels
- The Student Council has a responsibility for
- Working with staff, Board of Management and Parents’ Association in the school
- Communication and consulting with all the students in the school
- Involving as many students as possible in the activities of the Council
- Planning and managing the Council’s programme of activities for the year
- Managing and accounting to the student council and Board of Management, for any funds raised by the Council.

- Working with the Parents’ Association in school
- Co-operating with management and staff on the developmental of the Code of Behaviour
